This simple Savings Jar for Kids makes it easy for children to have money for that things they want – and a cute place to store it!
If your kids are old enough to be in school and have friends, they likely ask for money often. They are also old enough to learn how to save it, however, and use their own cash for things they want.
Small purchases for ice cream, special snacks, book fair items, and more add up quickly. Before you know it, you are giving your child upwards of $20 or more each month for all these little extras. It’s time they start using their own money, right?!

Enter this fun craft for a savings jar. It gives them a cute place to store all of their extra change and dollars. Maybe you start giving them an allowance for doing chores around the house. They can put the money in this bank to use later.
Teaching your little one to save is nothing but beneficial. You can’t go wrong with this. My son loves to save his money for mall shopping. Kid has expensive taste. Haha.
DIY Savings Jar for Kids Craft
Supplies:
- Mason Jar
- Paint
- Painters Tape
- Paint Brush
- Siccors
- Scraping Paper
- Money
Directions:
Step 01: First thing you want to do is pick out your colors. My little one went with red and blue. He decided to leave a clear section to see the money. We took the tape and wrapped up the section we chose not to paint.

Step 02: Once you have your paint picked and tape placed how you choose, begin painting. Remember that multiple coats may be needed if desired.

Step 03: While the paint dries you are going to want to take your lid and separate the two pieces. Take your scrapbooking paper, flip it over, and trace the circle. I cut inside of the circle to ensure a nice fit and not too big.
Once your circle is cut you want to cut a slit in the middle of the circle.

Step 04: Once you have your top cut out, replace the middle metal piece with your scrapbook paper cut out. This is now your lid.
Step 05: Put your lid on and your done!

Now your little one has their very own savings jar, decorated their own way with their own style. Now it’s time to help your little one save and teach them the value of a dollar.
