Lavender essential oil is one of the main aromatic oils used in aromatherapy for all the healing properties it provides.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is native to the high mountains of France, the Canary Islands and Persia. Lavender is picked at the hottest time of the day to obtain a more aromatic essential oil. Lavender essential oil can be used to soothe the skin and relax the mind.

Lavender in Aromatherapy

In aromatherapy, lavender oil is used to treat insomnia, depression, stress, headaches, burns ,acne, sore muscles, sprains, bruises, bites, stiff joints, nervous tension, and hair loss. The application of lavender essential oil can be applied with water, a base oil or by inhalation. A lavender oil is one of the few essential oils that can be applied to the skin without dilution. The aroma is sedative to the nervous system and the 160 different components in lavender are soothing to the skin. Having a light floral and herbal scent makes it a good oil to use on children, men, and women.

The word lavender comes from the Latin word lavare which means to wash. Lavender’s antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, analgesic, and restorative properties helps in treating the skin for acne, bruises, inflammation, muscle spasms and pains. The cleaning properties of lavender help the skin heal and restore itself. Certified aromatherapists recommend adding a few drops of lavender essential oil to bath water to keep a healthy skin all year round.
