Making Christmas crafts is one of my family’s favorite ways of passing the time during the holiday season. And when it comes to finding fun subjects for your holiday crafts, it doesn’t get much better than Santa! With just three craft supplies, you and your kids can make your own mini Santa hats at home. (P.S. Check out this great post with crafts using 3 supplies or less!) Whether you use these cute hats to decorate your tree or as an easy project to entertain your kids, you’re going to love this simple holiday project.
What Do I Need to Make These Mini Santa Hats?
The best part about this simple holiday craft is that you only need three craft supplies! To make your own mini hats, you’ll need:
· Cardboard tube. You can use an empty toilet paper roll or paper towel roll to create this simple project with your kids.
· Red yarn. Yarn is the key craft supply you’ll need to make these cute hats. If you’re making Santa hats, red yarn is a must. But you can use any color yarn if you want to make mini sock hats with your kids.
· White pom poms. The final touch for this craft is the mini pom-poms. If you don’t have any white pom poms at home, you can also use cotton balls to decorate your Santa hats.
How Do I Make Yarn Santa Hats?
Since this craft is so easy to do, it’s perfect for kids of any age. Just follow these simple steps to make your own Santa hats out of yarn:
Cut the cardboard tube. Before you use your cardboard tube for your hats, you’ll need to cut it. To determine the size you need your cardboard to be, use the pom poms as a guide. Since you’ll be covering the tube with the pom poms, you’ll need the cardboard to be no bigger than the size of the ball.
Wrap the yarn around the tube. After cutting your tube, use the yarn to wrap and cover the cardboard. Start by cutting several pieces of yarn around six inches in length. Then, wrap the cardboard by folding one piece of yarn in half to create a loop. Pull the loop end through the center of the tube, then thread the ends of the yarn through the loop. Pull the yarn tight to secure it in place. Continue wrapping the yarn around the cardboard until it’s fully covered.
Decorate the Santa hat. When your cardboard tube is covered. Lay the yarn flat on the table and straighten out the pieces. Wrap a piece of yarn around the center and tie it in a knot to create the hat shape. Trim off the excess yarn from the top, then decorate the rim and top of the hat with white pom poms.
